The approved figure corresponded to a cost-shar- ing scheme proposed by West Vancouver Mayor Peter Jones, which called for 33-per cent of the study’s cost to be paid by the provincial highways depart- ment, 22 per cent each by West Vancouver and North Vancouver District, and 11 per cent each by North. Vancouver City and_ the Squamish Indian Band. Some concern has_ been felt-by council that the study - might have. the -effect. of. stalling construction of a desired Lower Levels high- way funded by the provincial - government. Ald. Jim Warne, however, said Mon- day he felt the $5,500 contribution was ‘‘a mem- bership fee’’ to ensure that the City gets its share of provincial money. Council appointed — Ald. WV TRANSIT STUDY West Vamcouver council set improvement of —lecal transit through the estab- lishment of a transit study group as its major goal for 1977. Ald. Bob Wyckham was named chairman of. the study. It wiil examine such programs as dial-a-bus ser- vice, mini-buses and shared taxis, as well as looking into the improvement of bus services for Horseshoe Bay and British Properties res- idents. Council also decided - to limit this year’s tax increases to six per cent and tighten up ‘cost controls on municipal services. ARENA WOES North | Vancouver District council learned that contin- uing humidity and insulation problems at the Karen Magnussen Arena are going to cost at ieast another $2,500 before the trouble can be rectified.
