Jf you want your art to sell, “you have to go that next step,” says Ruth Payne, exhibitions coordinator of West Vancouver's Ferry Building Gallery. Thar “next step,” as Payne sees it, is pre- senting your work professionally, marketing 4 your talent and putting forth an image that reflects the skills you have as an artist. Payne has received her share of poorly pre- sented works trom artists eager to show in the tiny yet popular waterfront gallery. Sloppy sub- missions such as slides smeared with finger- prints don’t pass muster with the adjudicators who decide which artists make the final cut. “It’s basic,” says Payne. “Ir really comes down to selling yourself.” Payne will cover the basics of “how to pre- sent your artwork to a jury” in a workshop Wednesday, Oct. 1, 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Silk Purse Arts Centre, 1570 Argyle Ave., West Van.
