to be Dear Editor: I've been living on the North Shore for four years now. [ love the North Shore, but most importantly, | love Canada. 1 admire your freedoms, espe- cially the main ingredient of them all: freedom of speech. Living a couple of blocks from the North Shore News office, I've become addicted to your newspaper, To be honest, I’ve become addicted to Mr. Doug Collins and his controversial columns. Having a great columnist like him must make the North Shore proud of its newspaper. Even though airs “ he 1 have a timited knowledge of the English language it is pretty casy to understand his point every time. Most of the time [ agree with Collins (to a certain degree) regard- ing his views on our immigration system, multicult problems, etc. But in a recent column Collins really pushed it. Throughout his article, Collins attacked the way a youngster looked and criticized him for living in the ‘90s. At.the end, according to Mr. Collins’ theory, multicult’ was to blaine. So I'm sitting here racking my brains; do you really think that a a4 aye, oe 3253 Bx anacdian citizens |, May St youngster from ‘Timbuktu would come to Canada with baggy pants and w couple of earrings in his cars with a shaved head listening to gangster music, trying to introduce anew identity? Mr. Collins, you're the only one looking for an identity, the rest of us. including me, are more than proad to be Canudians, B.S. When the time comes, some of us “phony” intmigrants will stand up for this country just like you did in your old days. T wonder what you will say then? Shahram Allahdadi North Vancouver Please assess fiscal finesse Dear Editor: Your council reporter, Maureen ’ Curtis, is to be commended for her assessment of mayor and councillors in * West Vancouver, and probably more for what she implied than what she wrote. What would be of real interest now would be an assessment of the mayor’s _and.. individual councillors’ fiscal responsibility and management exper- tise. Whether they give in easily to vocal minorities, their analysis of proposed capital expenses and how tough they “are. with employees in regard to staffing, salaries, expenses and produc- ‘ tivity. .” The library and our $2 million {Museum and archives building are two ‘situations in which our mayor and ‘ councillors were sadly lacking in hard- “nosed business ability. ‘John S. Catchpole West Vancouver Dear Editor: So it finally took the likes of Doug Collins to say where exact- ly the average hard-working white male stood in the eyes of the NDP (April 23 News). This government has embraced an open-ended mandate to wrest away whatever power it can from the white man, all under the guise of a multicultural and egalitarian society. Further to Collins’ statement, ] ask why all people coming to this great land of ours can’t wait in line for whatever we feel enti- “tled 10? This is not from a racist point of view but from someone who adheres strongly to the principles of right and wrong and fair and unfair, - How much more of the elitist harangue must we subject our- selves to due to the likes of Mike Harcourt, Glen Clark and Moe Sihota? More power to the likes of Noel Wright and Doug Collins, who have the guts to scrutinize the truth and speak for the likes of me who has toiled hard over the years only to see the future of my grandkids on shaky ground because it seems others’ rights are far more paramount in the eyes of the NDP. Truth without the element of fairness is as available as the see- through policies of this government. Any bets for the next election?
