NORTH VANCOUVER'S Neptune
Terminals and Vancauver Wharves
received good news recently thanks
to China's record 800,000-ton pur-
chase of Saskatchewan potash.

The entire amount will be
shipped through the two terminals,
said Ted Nieman, the general coun-
sel for CANPOTEX, the offshore
export arm of Saskatchewan potash
producers.

Barry Carswell, Neptune's ship-
ping and sales manager, said that
contract and another shipment to
China earlier in’ the year have
helped Neptune chalk up a record
year in potash.

He said more than three million
tons of potash will have passed
through Neptune's two-year-old,
100,000-ton storage shed by the end
of the year.

“This year we'll do very well
with potash,” he said.

Neptune is 22.5% owned by
CANPOTEX, said Carswell. He
added the red potash in the Chinese

deal will be used as fertilizer.

Vancouver Wharves will also see
some of the potash going through its
terminal.

Vancouver Wharves vice presi-
dent of operations Bill Weymark
said that in terms of overall tonnage
the shipment will not be a large por-
t‘on of the firm’s business. But, “in
fiese economic times,” said
v.eymark, any incremental increase
in business is appreciated.
