Student wins award North Vancouver resident Gregory Peters, 17, has been named the recipient of a $9,000 Gordon M. Shrum Scholarship to attend Simon Fraser University this fall. Peters, who graduates this year from Windsor Secondary School, North Vancouver, is one of seven outstanding B.C. students to receive the prestigious Shrum university entrance award. Recipients receive $1,000 for their first semester at SFU and $1,000 per semester over the next eight semesters if they maintain a sufficiently high academic standing. Peters has been a straight A student through high school and has displayed particular proficiency in physics and algebra. He has the second percentile ranking among the 29,000 students from Canada, the United States and Germany who entered the Junior Mathematics contest sponsored by the University of Waterloo. He is active in athletics and is a qualified lifeguard and swimming instructor as well as playing piano, saxophone, and violin. Peters plans a career in medicine, specializing in research.
