Free tax help to seniors

Chartered accountants
throughout British Columbia
are now volunteering their
evenings at free tax clinics to
help senior citizens meet the
taxman’s deadline.

The free tax clinic service
has been provided for
several years by the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of
British Columbia to assist

senior citizens in the
compietion of their tax
returns.

The service is available for
senior citizens with incomes
of less than $9,000.

Howard Peake said the tax

clinics have been enor-
mously popular over the
years. Last year, the In-
stitute had so many ap-
plications from senior
citizens for help that the
volunteers were swamped.

“We are hoping to be able
to help all those senior
citizens who apply this year,
and those who want help
should make their ap-
pointments carly,” Peake
advised. “Some centres are
already full.”

Most of the clinics are
conducted in senior citizen
recreation or community
centres in Greater Van-
couver and throughout the
province.

expansion
