ATTENTION CITY TO Parkgate health centre opens COMMUNITY health services are now based in the centre of North Vancouver’s Seymour area with the reloca- tion of services to the new Parkgate Community Centre. Beginning on Monday, residents of Parkgate, Deep Cove, Lynn Valley and ether nearby communities will be able to access programs and services through the Parkgate Community Health Centre (CHC) at 3625 Banff Court in| North Vancouver — directly behind the Parkgate Shopping Centre. This is che second North Shore Health. Region com- munity health centre to begin operation during the past tew months. The western CHC was opened to the public in April to serve residents of West Vancouver, Lions Bay and Bowen Island. The Parkgate CHC means residents of the eastern North Shore no longer have to travel several kilometres to North Vancouver, City for community health services. It will be a base for more WNHOUSE RESIDENTS! * As part tof the Official Community Plan update, the City of North Vancouver is preparing a profile of residents living in townhouse davelopments and assessing their satisfaction with their housing. than a dozen health providers and support staff including nurses, therapists, public health inspectors, and a facil- ity-licensing assessor. Services to be offered through =the ~—s Parkgate Community Health Centre include immunization clinics, prenatal classes, — healthy infant/child drop-in, breast- feeding support, injury pre- vention programs, nutritional services, and mental health assessment and counselling. Outreach services such as home care nursing, occupa- tional/physiotherapy, home support and long-term care assessments will continue to be provided in the client’s home. The Parkgate Community Health Centre is part of the Parkgate Community Centre, a facility that was developed in partnership with the dis- trict of North Vancouver, the North Vancouver Recreation Commission and Seymour Community Services. Parkgate Community Centre is particularly unique because residents will play a key role in its operation and program- ming. The commencement of community health services at Parkgate coincides with a range of other services such as as Weight room, infant/toddler and three- to five-year-old childcare pro- gram, and a seniors’ centre open house. A supervised open gymna- sium is also available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. The Family Resource Centre, Youth Centre, Arts and Craft Centre and climb- ing wall will ‘open in September, The Parkgate CHC: and the entire Parkgate Community Centre will be officially opened with a com- munity ceremony and celc- bration on Saturday, Sept. 25.
