safe for
13 years

you drive by on miserable
days and feel sorry for. On
sunny days you envy her.

No matter the weather,
substitute crosswalk guard Angie
Gentile has been safely shep-
herding kids across Queens Road
at Mahon Avenue for the past 13
years.

When school’s in session, you'll
find Gentile, hired by the schoo!
board, working a four-hour shift
from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., 11:30 to 1
p.m. and 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Her patch of asphalt is a busy
one with student foot traffic (in-
cluding three regular
skateboarders) coming from
Braemar Elementary School on
Mahon, Larson Elementary School
on Larson, Carson Graham Sec-
ondary School on Jones and
Balmoral Junior Secondary School

on Mahon.
Said Gentile: ‘I was concerned
about my daughter’s well-being

when she was going to North Star

school and so | got involved.’’
Countless safe crossings later,

But Gentile’s younger daughter
Anita currently attends Braemar.
That point of motherly self-
interest, combined with the

You never know who is going to
keep going. I’ve almost been run
over and the other lady has, too,
