Like everyone else, i read with interest the Greater Vancouver figures and commentary in the newspapers and ! can't Yelp drawing the conclusion that we on the North Shore have been shielded frani ihe worst effects of the last 6 months’ “recession”. We shouid remain aware of the averaging effect of “the better, the bac and the ugly” components of the Greater Vancouver market. We are certainly part of the “better” - without out figures, the rest (G//an minus N/Shore) would appear even worse. N/Van still has “acceptable” activity - W//an not far behind. When will it turn around? | still believe that the “pent up demand” | spoxe of last month is real BUT the “pent 'p" part is certainly not at a boiling (or near boiling) point. Positive signs? Economic indicators during the past week showed Canada's grewth forecast for 1999 upped by a number of respected economists (have | just created another oxymoron?). Even BC has shown. a drop in unemployment. Will these factors assist with upward pressure on housing? | cannot put forward a strong optimistic argument but | believe there are no good reasons for North Shore teal estate to deteriorate any further AND, for those waiting for the crash... | opine that it will not happen.
