Harcourt was the featured speaker at a New Democratic Party brunch that host’ MLA David Schreck said signalled the kick-off of a new membership drive: To a packed audience of 220 enthusiastic supporters at Cheers restaurant, Harcourt offered up lib- eral helpings of socialist inspiration and accolades about his govern- ment’s performance. | The carly focus on re-election, Harcourt said, was to let the gov- ernment get its Message out to the people and continue with his gov- ernment’s “vision.” “We want the people to look a what we've accomplished and nat worry about what the media is say- ing or not saying.” Much of the premive’s speech was given toa recitation of his goy- ernment’s accomplishments in four main areas: social services, educa- tion, government spending and forestry management. “We have the number one econ- omy in North Amertea. The bond rating services have given us a clean bill of health and only the national economy and national debt prevents us from having a AAA rat- ing.” He said his government has reduced the deficit by 63% and now B.C.’s government is $90 million “in the black” concerning the provi- sion of all health, education and social services, “We're the first government in Canada to do that,” he said.
