MaAILBox WEST VAN DEBATE More burning days ‘inconceivable’ Dear Editor: On Feb. 12 West Vancouver District Council will be discussing and probably voting on the proposal to in- crease outdoor burning from the present 16 days to an astonishing 175 days a year. I hope they will place a parallel inter- pretation on the results of the poll they commissioned. Charles M. Campbell West Vancouver Consider alternative to burning Dear Editor: Garden refuse should go back to the soil. Although picking it up and transporting it to a central shred- der/compost facility adds to the general degradation of our air, the alternative of burning it on-site, as well as adding to our air degrada- tion, also causes specific breathing discomfort to those nearby and, very often, to those quite some Mailbox policy WHEN SENDING a letter to the editor, be sure to include your name, written legibly, your full address and your telephone number. A free garden refuse pickup should be provided in the spring and fall and the material com- posted or used as mulch. This could be done either at our municipal works yard or in coop- eration with the other two North Shore municipalities. In West Vancouver years have gone by with studies and pro- crastination. It is past time we showed consideration for our neighbors by banning outdoor burning now and collecting and us- ing garden refuse in a better way.
