Twenty stores opened their doors at the new = mall last weekend, and about 10 more stores are expected to be open by Christmas, Yates said. Customer response to the super- market-gourmet store — touted as the first store of its kind in Canada -- has also been good. Featuring a host of gourmet, imported and speciality items — including 72 different types of mustard — the store is designed to suit the area’s particular neighborhood and clientele, Safeway public affairs manager Don Bell said. “(Customers) are pleased to be able te get a number of products they’ve had to shop in Vancouver or elsewhere for,’’ said Bell. The three North Shore mayors have proclaimed this week as Business Women’s Week, until Oct. 25. The non-profit women’s club is holding a giant garage sale at Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Boulevard, Saturday, Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pro- ceeds raised will support a bursary program for women attending Capilano College. Caulfeild Village’s Safeway location is the sixth new store the company has opened in the Lower Mainland this year. Bell said there are no plans to open another Safeway store on the North Shore.
