Introduced in mid-1983, the first front-wheel-drive New Yorker is a_ five- passenger, four-door luxury sedan, which continues a tradition of elegance established more than 40 years ago with the introduc- uon of the first Chrysler New Yorker. Styling refinements on the 1984 Chrysler New Yorker include a redesigned lower grille and fascia, and new wraparound taillights. New exterior oOrnamentation § in- cludes wheel lip, door, belt, and deck lid mouldings and body side marker lights. Five new extenor color choices include Radiant silver and charcoal crystal coats and pearl coats in gunmetal blue, mink brown, and garnet red. New options for 1984 in- clude a turbocharged, elec- tronic fuel-injected engine and cast aluminum road wheels. New Yorker elec- tronics feature a new elec- tronic instrument cluster with car graphic displays, new electronic navigator option, and a full line of electronically-tuned radios. The front-wheel-drive 1984 Chrysler New Yorker features the standard Chrysler 2.2 litre four- cylinder engine, with throttle body electronic fuel injection added for 1984. A 2.6 litre four-cylinder engine made for Chrysler by Mitsubishi in Japan is optionally available and comes with an extended- life exhaust system. Also optionally available 1s a 2.2 litre turbocharged four- cylinder engine with elec- tronic fuel injection. The 1984 Chrysler New Yorker’s exterior styling highlights include a padded landau-type vinyl roof, finely detailed, color-keyed front fender louvres and a bnght, swept-back rectangular grille. Locking wire-style wheel- covers and color-keyed door handle inserts are also stan- dard, as are bodyside accent stripes and dual, power- adjusted chrome exterior mirrors. New Yorker’s list of stan- dard equipment also includes Chrysler’s Electronic Voice Alert System. The Electronic Navigator computer travel information system, optional on the 1984 Chrysler New Yorker, pro- vides precise data on distance-to-destination, wee distance-to-empty fuel tank, estimated time of arrival at destination, elapsed driving tume, average tnp speed and fuel usage, and other impor- tant driver navigation aids — alt at the touch of a button. The navigation console also features an electronic chronometer which gives hour, minute, month, and year reports on its digital display. A unique ‘‘optical horn’’ is available on most 1984 Chrysler-built cars. By pull- ing back on the turn signal control lever attached to the steering column, the driver is able to flash his bright head- lamps instantly during daylight hours even when the headlamp switch is in the ‘‘off’’ position. This option gives the driver the choice of using lights instead of horn as a signalling device to pedestrians and other motorists.
