The elder later gave artist Harry a Nimpkish dollar to secure under the first pole (according to tradition) and left him with 13 more for the remaining ones, and one for Trustees on air on education THE FIRST in a series of three programs outlining what is happening in the public school system will be aired on the Community 10 channel on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. The programs will be hosted by Dr. Rod Wickstrom, the Superinten- dent of Schools for School himself. Twenty-five-year-old Harry, a graduate of the Emily Carr College of Arts, says he wanted to re-create the longhouse in the tradi- tional style. He read books and did his own research to produce a structure similar to those which were once found in his own village on the Sta- mish reserve. “*] used to sit on a stool while making it, look inside and try to make myself feel like I was walking in there,’’ he recalls. Harry’s interest and skill in art landed him a job teaching wood carving in a number of District 44. Community 10 approached the district with the idea for the programs, which was later approved by the board. Trustee Margaret Jessup says three items will be covered in the programs air- ing in October, December and January, with possibile topics to cover the current News publisher vice-president PETER SPECK, publisher of the North Shore News, has been elected vice-president of the B.C.
