But of the twenty four Major Division teams en- tered, including squads from Buffalo, Detroit, Seattle and San Francisco, West Van finished among the top eight teams, as well as placing four players on the tournament All-Star roster. Very early in the tour- nament West Van_ served notice they were to be taken seriously, turning in stunning performances over teams from Swift) Current and Edmonton - both Provincial finalists who were expected to be contenders for top honours in the Calgary event. In their opening games, Wheelers head for Boston Rick Hansen (25) and Lenny Marriott (29) of British Columbia will be racing against athletes from all over the world April 18 in this year’s running of the Boston Marathon. Hansen who set a new world record of 1:58:29 in the “World Wheelchair Championshps” at the Orange Bowl Marathon (Florida) in January is ex- pected to better his unof- ficial time of last year of 1:48:22. The tie with Edmonton denied West Van the crucial point in the standings needed to place them in the championship round. West Van's only losses were at the hands of the two Alberta teams, losing out 5-3 to the Calgary Sabres and 6-5 to the Lethbridge Mohawks. Defencemen Paul Schulte and Robert Hill, forward Daryl Craig and goaltender Kevin Helps were the West Van players named to the tournament All Star team.
