In 1980, 44 percent of all poisonings in British Columbia occurred in children aged under 14, and of these, 56 percent were due to prescription or non- prescription drugs. Two important con- tributing factors to this situation are, improper storage of medication and the hoarding of old, unused drugs. The pharmacy at Lions Gate Hospital will holding a contest in an at- tempt to discourage the unnecessary accumulation of both prescription and non-prescription products in the home. North Shore citizens will be encouraged to package up their old drugs and enter them into a contest to be held which closes December 4. Their old pills could win them a dinner at a North be Shore Restaurant by disposing of: a) all products with an expiry date on them that has out-dated. b) all products that have heen left unused for longer than one year, at any pharmacy on the North Shore. A dinner for two will be awarded: a) To the person = sub- mitting the greatest number of drug containers and contents, (compliments of Harvest Eating House) b) To the person = sub- mitting the oldest container (compliments) of Troll's Seafood Restaurant) c) To one entry drawn at random from all of those submitted (compliments of Lions Gate Hospital) Several years ago (1977) when we first held this contest it drew 77 official entrants with 858 containers being returned. The oldest container was dated 1928! ‘One person alone, brought in 64 containers. It should be noted that hundreds more containers were returned for disposal only and were not officially entered into the contest. eS) 2.8 —3.@ | It's So easy...
