Four such youngsters have recently been “adopted” by North Shore sponsors — Mr. and Mrs. Wiebe, Mr. David MacLean and Mr. Mike Mont of North Vancouver, and Miss Sarah Haydahl of West Vancouver — through the Foster Parents Plan of Canada. Two of the children, five- year-old Wilham Ruano Estrada and = 10-year-old Rodas Figueroa, adopted respectively by the Wiebes and MacLean. live in Guatemala Mont. who — previously adopted a needy child in Indonesia. has now become Canadian foster parent to Il year old Micheline Dure of Hain Haydahl has adopted five St. John Ambulance year-old Maria Tapia of Ecuador. The famihes of these children struggle to maintain hfe and health in the most primitive conditions, with monthly cash = incomes ranging from $6 (in the case of the small plantation- farmer father of Micheline in Haati) to $100. Monthly contributions of $19 from their Canadian sponsors, therefore, make a dramatic difference to their living standards and prospects. Foster Parents Plan provides the family with free medical and dental care, free prescriptions, the sustained guidance = and counselling of social workers and the benefits of many special programs.
