UPPER LONSDALE A North Vancouver teen is one of the voungest pilots in Canada to qualify for his official private pilot's licence. According to his dad Colin, Jonathan Lewis held an overriding amibition tor the tirst 16 years of his life to become an air force pilot. Thanks to the support of North Vancouver’s — 103 Thunderbird Air Cader squadron and Jonathan's excellent results on his writ- ten test, this summer he took he took a giant step closer to achieving that goal. Jonathan — received a seven-week flying scholar- ship at Comox AFB on Vancouver Istand. During his first lesson, his wing-tip struck an illegally parked van as he taxied down the run- way. He made a big impres- sion on the startled van dri- ver, as well as on the van. But after the first outing, things have really taken off for the now- 17-year-old. He passed the Ministry of Transport: written exam, a two-hour flying exam, and got his “wings” at a gradua- tion ceremony at Comox on Aug. 18.
