Dear Editor: T read with interest the story about the threatened move to Kelowna of the North Shore Indians lacrosse team, P attended the majority of the home games and seme road games for the last tour years and must say E thought it was the best: entertainment buy for $8 one could find. | would rate the excitement level of game seven against New West in the “96 playotts as one of the coolest events | have ever attended. The drumming and_ the screaming fans in the sold out recCentre could have done structural damage to the building. Warching the likes of Chris George, Paul Gait, Kirt Molosky and the local guys like the Bakers made it all spe- cial, The fact these guys worked their guts out for next to nothing added to the spe- cial tecling for lacrosse in gen- eral. So now what do we get, another egotistical whining owner saving it is all the “pay- ing public’s” fault they don’t make any money! Who asked you to get a Senior “A” team? Was there a lineup of people waiting to buy seasons tickets? [don’t think so; vou just wanted to play with the big boys! Free tickets to the kids in school when they are accom: panied by an adule? How about a phone line like they already have for Kelowna? Maybe che owner standing at the door thanking those who paid for coming? T must say there was also some “race” issues involved here. The owners wanted to build a team as a role model for “their® youth and the rest of us to pay for it. Natives, from the very same neigh- bourhood as me, got in tree. The management to the best of my knowledge, never involved anyone trom outside the native community to try and chet the paving public. The tact the reeCentre is a poor building to watch and lis- ten in probably doesn’t help either. Is there anv event held there that even comes close to filling the joint like lacrosse has on those few occasions? You would think North Vancouver would be bending over backwards to try and help.
