RITISH COLUMBIA is one of the most unique places

in the world for outdoor adventurers since more than

90% of the province's land is held by the people of the
province in the form of protected park land.

A total of 352 parks cover an area of 5.36 million hectares
(20,700 square miles), an area covering one-twentieth of the
vast province —- B.C. parks cover an area larger than all of
Switzerland.

Ranging in size from minuscule — less than a hectare — to
a mind-boggling 896,568 hectares/2,215,466 acres
(Tweedsmuir Provincial Park in the Coast Mountain Range),
these areas afford inhabitants and visitors an endless arnount of
space to play.

rafting, horseback riding to sea-kayaking, the rugged and
beautiful terrain of B.C. offers recreational enthusiasts no short-

More than 11,000 individual public campsites dot the
province and almost 5,000 picnic tables placed in them or
nearby. Hikers can choose from over 2,000 kilometres (1,250
miles) of maintained trails in provincial parks, most of which
give them access to B.C.’s most outstanding scenic features.

Mountains cover most of the province, and while they thwart
human settlement, they provide British Columbians with a
quality of outdoor recreation that is unequaled anywhere in the
world. The tourism industry has been built to cater to visitors
who come to take in British Columbia’s great outdoors.
