THE RIGHT style of dress can go a long way in making up for what Mother Nature left out. Short, fit- ted jackets can hide a long torso, below-the-knee skirts can create the illusion of longer legs, and the right pair of pants can hide a pro- truding tummy. ABETH COLL News Reporter The trick is to know what styles suit you, and now there’s a West Vancouver business called Fashion Perfect which can tell you what they are. Using a software package from a Montreal company called Vestimetra, consultant Marge Par- son can pinpoint the styles which best emphasize your good points while minimizing your bad ones. The key, Parson says, is to create a sense of balance by choos- ing the right styles and then put- ting them together. “What the whole program is trying to do is balance you. If you’re too big in once place, too small in another, you can work on that with optical illusion,’’ Parson says. The first part of an appointment with Parson is the hardest. In order to get accurate measurements, Parson asks you to dress down to underclothes, al- though she doesn’t insist if you're uncomfortable with it. “It’s probably one of the hardest things I’m finding. It’s understandable because I'm fully dressed and you don’t know me — but it’s lots of fun,’’ she says reassuringly. From that point, it’s all uphill. Parson deftly takes your measurements before entering 1990 50 Soiree | ParkRoval Sl SHOPPING CENTRE ume them into the computer. Then she pulls up your vital Statistics on the screen. The computer is brutally honest in identifying the shortcomings of your figure. Bow legs, short legs, large waist, long waist, big hips or no hips — the computer spares you no fault. Accompanying these unpleasant truths is a series of fashions, drawn right on the screen, design- ed to make the best of your figure. A common error of many heavy women, Parson says, is to wear ei- ther skin tight clothes or tent-style dresses. But with the right style, she claims, the appearance of a slim- mer figure can be achieved. “If you can dress to lose 10 pounds, then that really makes a difference.” A former home economics teacher, Parson first saw the need for such a service when she found many of her students simply didn’t know the styles that suited them best. Meanwhile, the Vestimetra pro- gram was being developed by Christine Grignon in Montreal. Parson is the first person to bring the program to Vancouver.
