areas planned for cole crops (broc-
coli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts,
etc.) will help to control club-root.

Keep any type of lime away from

the potato beds because it can
cause scabby tubers.

Some seeds of vegetable plants
worth starting indoors over the
next few weeks are broccoli,
Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauli-
flower, head lettuce, onions, pep-
pers (now), and tomatoes,

You can plant your potatoes and
onion sects as soon as you have
Prepared the beds. The seeds of
endive, leaf lettuce, pea, radish,
spinach, and turnip should be safe
to sow in the last two weeks of the
month.

© Trees and Shrubs — If you
have yet to do required major
pruning (culs over one inch in
diameter) do it tomorrow. Warmer

and this is that much harder on

most of the broadleaved
evergreens.

General purpose fertilizers like
6-8-5 can be used for the other
trees and shrubs in your garden.
Bonemeal makes an cxcellent sup-
plement for those flowering shrubs
not included in the acid-loving cat-
cgory, ie. roses, potentilla, spirea,
etc.

© Miscellaneous — This is one
of the best times of the year to
begin renovating the garden. New-
ly purchased trees and shrubs still
have ample time to establish a root
system before the hot weather hits.
