Arts Club Review Theatre: Only In When is Memory Day? From page 13 The musicians acknowledge their similarities to Vancouver- based bands, Grapes of Wrath and 54-40. But by combining folk-rock with '60s style psychedelia, Mem- ory Dav has managed to forge its own sound. They even have a name for it: ‘‘folkadelic.”’ “There's a swirling at- moaspheric quality to our music,” says Fletcher. “‘It's moody but at the same time energetic.” “Three-part harmonies,”’ notes McKenzie. Songs like Color of Love, how- ever, are exceptions. They inject a very modern element into Memo- ry Day's style of music. Fletcher says the dichotomy is constantly at work within the band’s music: “There's definitely a modern sound to our songs.” He admits that U2 guitarist The Edge has had a great influence on many of his songs while Oliver points to King Crimson and Chicago. Whatever the influences, the band has managed to combine its . own talents with music that should prove to be truly mc:norable. well balanced THE NASHVILLE NETWORK For peopte who really have their country!
