Know your fabrics

A KNOWLEDGE of fabrics can
be very important in making
choices about the. type of uphol-

- stered furniture to buy:
As with other types of furniture,

the primary goal’ in purchasing -

upholstered furniture is to choose
a quality fabric that. suits your
needs and reflects your lifestyle.
‘Fabrics are made of yarns spun
from cither natural or synthetic
fibres. A high-quality fabric is
usually tightly woven, colorfast,
strong and resilient so that it won't
stretch, shrink; ravel or pull apart

Fabrics have different levels of
wearability. High-quality, durable

Does it sag after you sit on it or

bounce back to its original shape?.

Does it crush easily and will it
stand upright with a gentle
brushing? ‘

These are all questions you
should ask yourself before
deciding what kind of fabric to
buy. Think carefully before mak-
ing a purchase, because ultimately
the kind of fabric you choose will
be a reflection of the kind of life
you live and the kind of person
you are;
