We have suffered, and cleaned up, through the pile driving, the Scared Dear Editor: - Since time immemorial concrete pouring and the smoothing. We closed our windows in all this heat to try and keep out the noise. We simply leered back at workers who invaded our privacy. We endured - but complained - when someone parked a two thousand gatlon hot tar pot literally under our window where it sat and smoked and fumed and stenched 24 hours a day to go to the dentist - diseases have been isolated . of the most fatal, incurable - and ‘contagious... diseases,">. _up a medical’ facil - these people, * would receive all the medical, 21S RRR TIT, Hee RRA a TET ET EE TET RTT ATA EE EY YT EE BM Ec PETE ERI CAS 6S RE TR ES ROLF TOL ee: QE, HR PLAS REA ete Ie ERI te Ete, ee SEEDED RUPE I es ree ti EOE re NM, A IIT EPINS then ee baa . require, are entitl a pocratic | Oat of itseif as ‘‘civilized.”” " tually halt’ the spread of persons .with contagious ) i we are. terrifi cd (as well they from the’ rest of: the com- -: munity. We have observed in amazement as the 10-storey building has grown to 14. And two of them are four feet oversize so in reality, it is 15 storeys. But the final straw has landed. On the top storey they have started to build the south wall and then the north. It consists of a panel some ten feet high and ‘eighty feet long: of what ~ looks like polished fibreglass and it is screaming bright mint ‘green.’ If that. is :con- nee tinued onthe north wall our ‘apartment. = ‘and. all others ‘facing south .-. will become. ; ~ ey- completely ‘un-inhabitable, | should be) of contacting the: unless you’ are colorblind. All store fronts are framed in mint green. The only thing missing now: are mint green balcony rail- ings and it won't be surpris- ing to see them come along! For the sake of a few’ paltry tax dollars the city allowed this monstrosity to be foisted on a community and in doing so have utterly destroyed the rental value of 50% of the apartments that are only some 60 feet away. The assessment of ' this building will drop dramatically next time around. So what has been gained in the name of ‘prog- ress’? It would seem to me to be a very short-sighted policy to deliberately affront citizens like ourselves. who have been taxpayers at this location for some seventeen years, and who have grown into senior citizens . while’ helping a this city of North Vancouver, in favor of a land developer who is only out for what he can get from the project. This mad obsession with bright green is something that should be dealt very firmly with immediately be- fore it becomes embroiled in long costly lega! hassles. We feel that faced with the prospect of a ten foot by eighty foot bright green plastic panel some sixty feet away from our living .and bedroom windows . con- stitutes a definite infringe- ment on our basic freedoms and look to the Mayor ‘and Council to take action to have it stopped.
