Getting back to Pebbles, I wonder if the nervous little thing might truly try to get back home to Coquitlam. Or, would she find a hole somewhere - perhaps under a garage or in a crawl-space - and hide. Hunger might drive her out at night to raid a garbage can and fear might drive her back to the hole by day. In most studies I’ve read, lost animals are usually found within a few blocks of where they disappeared, - providing they aren't pet- napped. Timid animals, like Pebbles, are unlikely to approach people, especially adults. Several years ago, Brian was taking one of our cats (an especially timid young lady) to the vet. When he opened the car door, Miss Cricket vaulted out of the car, dove through four lanes of heavy traffic and vanished. We searched the neighborhood on foot for days, going out late at night when things were quiet, calling and calling. Twice, in the dark, we were ap proached by an identical cat which we joyfully brought home, only to find a young tomcat that our other cats disliked on sight. We returned him to where we found him, advising the house nearby. “Sure, he’s ours.
