The strategy committee was appointed by a central organizing committee for a representative hospital board, which established itself at the meeting. The decision was taken by the doctors, social organization representatives and concerned citizens who made up the meeting of about two dozen _ par- ticipants. The group hopes to convince as many North Shore residents as possible to join the Lions Gate Hospital Society and vote at its annual general meeting in September. The struggle between Pro-Life and Pro- Choice factions on the matter of abortions is a key issue. The concern is that if Pro- Life supporters turn up in the kind of force they did at last year’s meeting — where more than 400 attended — without a counter balance, that they will sweep the slate with candidates for all four vacancies. The need for sound dtrategy when dealing .with Pro-Life protagonists was stated strongly at Thursday's meeting by Elma Maund, a “concerned citizen”. “We need to understand the system very clearly and know precisely what we're doing,” she said. . Maund referred to the annual general meeting at the - Richmond General Hospital two weeks ago where one of three vacant board positions went to a Pro-Life supporter. But she said the other two elections constituted a “close call”. Pro’Life advocates exercised “effective, well- organized tactics and they were expert in legal technicalities,”she said. Others attending the meeting noted that Pro-Life is an international movement ‘with tremendous organization and funding behind them.” The committee hopes that candidates chosen by the LGH nominating committee will be known to North Shore residents well before the annual meeting and that a great deal of information on all aspects of the issue will be disseminated over the next two moriths My name necessary gecor and lightin fabric. | will when that ahead with the job (ined) draperies by S.
