According to Transport Canada, the Panamanian regis- tered ship spilled abut 13,000 litres of oil into Burrard Inlet. The 34,000-tonne bulk carrier was Ioading fue! at the time of the spill. Transport Canada said the owners of the ship) were responsible for paying the $142,000 clean-up charge for the spill. Before Judge Reginald Grandison in North Vancouver provincial court on Dec, 3, 1997; Michele Choon Ling Chong, no age given, of Vancouver, was fined $1,800 after pleading guilty to being the registered owner of a building in the 1500-block of Crown Street that was permit- ted to be used as a two-family residence on March 14, 1997, The infraction contravened a North Vancouver District bylaw. eee Robert Jeffrey Campbell, 36, of New Westminster, was fined $300 after he pleaded guilty to using a stolen Sears credit card on Oct. 14, 1997, in North Vancouver City. Before Judge Bill Rodgers in North Vancouver provincial court on Dec. 3, 1997: George Ian Brown, 21, of North Vancouver, was fined $300 and his driver's licence suspended for three months afier he pleaded not guilty to impaired, but instead pleaded guilty to the lesser or included offence of driving without duc care and attention.
