4 — Sunday, December 14, 1997 -— North Shore News Marijuana plants seized NORTH Vancouver RCMP drug section offi- cers have now busted eight marijuana grow Operations over the past year. The most recent arrests came Dec. 3, when officers armed with a search warrant found $200,000 worth of growing marijuana plants, dried and bagged marijuana, a small amount of cocaine and grow equipment at a rented Indian River Drive home. Two adult males have been arrested and charged with production of marijuana and possession for the purpose of trafficking. RCMP spekesman Const. Tom Seaman would not telease the men’s names, but said both provided North Vancouver addresses and both were known to the police. Coquitlam RCMP had a warrant out for ane of the men for manjuana-retated offences, said Seaman. The eight busts have yielded marijuana with a serect value of $2.9 million, said Seaman. There have been numerous arrests and some of the operations have been connected to organized crime, Those investigations arc continuing, said Seaman. Seaman said many of the marijuana grow operations are established in quiet residential areas in rented haraes. Often the homeowner does not know about the grow operation. Other times, the owners turn a blind eye to the criminal business, said Seaman. He said marijuana grow operations are common all over the Lower Mainland. “In the past five years, grow operations have increased just because of the sheer profitability of them,” said Seaman. — Ian Noble AAMCO Centres have certified technicians with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools.
