Over the next two months, the municipalities’ Nerth Shore Recycling Program will be deliver- ing a reusable, plasticized blue recycling bag to every apartment dweller in North Vancouver City, North Vancouver District and West Vancouver. The North Shore Recycling Program pioneered widespread recycling collection and pick-up from apartment builcings when it began its multi-family recycling program in November 1990. Currently, about 91% of the North Shore’s multi-family build- ings take advantage cf this municipal service, which is thought to be the highest coverage west of Toronto. The strong but lightweight bags now being delivered are used for storing recyclables. and carrying them to the apartment building’s centrat recycling bins. The bags can also be used to bring groceries home, thereby cut- ting down on disposable plastic or paper bags.
