The key is knowing your body type. © The Petite Woman: For petite women, it is important to accent the vertical to give the illusion of taller proportions. Shorter women should select clothing in one color family or a mix of soft tones — never segment the body with a clutter of bold colors. She should wear sleek, simple dresses ac- cessorized with clean, un- complicated jewelry such as drop earrings, simple chains or pendants and more delicate bracelets. © The Tall Thin Woman: The tall thin woman can use fashion to enhance her proportions and to prevent a too-thin, lanky appear- ance. Soft, flowing silhouettes give this figure the illusion of fullness and movement. And the new fullness in pants this season offers skinny legs more substance. Dresses or separates nipped in at the waist with a belt work especial- ly well for a figure without curves. Don’t gamble with clothes THE FOLLOWING information on how to care for fabric was prepared by the International Fabric Institute. Don’t Gamble With Your Clothes You’ll get better results if you follow these dos and don’ts when storing your clothes: Do make sure your sweaters are freshly cleaned before putting them away. Some stains are invisible and will darken in time if left unattended. Don’t store your sweaters in a plastic bag. Wrap them in tissue paper before storing in a chest. Do ask your drycleaner about “box storage.’ This inexpensive service can provide you with a safe, imsect-free alternative to home storage. .Don’t store furs where it’s too hot, dry or too damp. Do store your fur on a well- padded hanger in a cool, dark place. Furs need to breathe, so never store in a plastic bag. Don’t forget to clean your fur once a year. The Great Imposter Rayon is often treated so it has a smooth and lustrous finish which gives it the look and feel of silk. Rayon is very sensitive to water. Many dyes applied to rayon are not colorfast and will bleed, caus- ing a shading to occur upon con- tact with moisture. In addition, manufacturers often add sizing to rayon in order to achieve a desired body or drape. Some siczings are water-soluable and washing will distort the shape of the garment. Drycleaning is recommended for most rayon garments because a professional drycleaner is able to solve most of these problems. ’ However, some garments whose éare label reads “‘dryclean only” contain dyes and sizings that are water-soluable. Never try to remove a stain from tayon without first pretesting the fabric. Wet a small piece of the garment on an unexposed seam and allow it to air dry. If no dye or sizing occurs, small stains may be removed in this way. Large stains should always be taken to a professional drycleaner. A Real Smoothie You can be a real smoothie when it comes to keeping silk clothes clean if you remember an important point: when you spill something on your silk garment don't try to rub it off. When silk fibres are wet, they’re weaker and subject to chafing. If you spill on silk, gently blot the area and avoid rubbing. Take it to a professional drycleaner within a week so the stain doesn’t set, and be sure to point out the stained area. Silk garments labeled ‘‘dryclean only’? should not be washed at home. Check the label on your clothes for the best advice about care and cleaning. Linen — Crisp As Lettuce Linen is washable but it can shrink if it has not been pre-shrunk by the manufacturer. As with all textile apparel, check the label be- fore laundering. To wash linens in a washing machine, use warm water and a short, gentle cycle. Dry garments on a clothing rack or hanger. If the linen is heavy, you can put the garment in the dryer for about 10 minutes to remove excess moisture. When ironing, use a_ high temperature with a spray mist or damp pressing cloth to press linen. As with stains on other fabrics, be careful not to rub the stain. Blot up any spill and have the garment drycleaned as soon as possible to avoid a permanent stain.
