The publishers’ sales repre- sentative Megan Halstrom said the directory will be provided free to all seniors, and it will be updated and published annually. “It really is a community resource project,’’ said Halstrom. “The publishers were knowl edgeable that the North Shore has a high percentage of seniors, especially in West Vancouver. Secondly, there is a high com- munity identity on the North Shore and because of that our resource directory truly fulfils many of the needs of seniors."’ Halstroin said more than 50 per cent of the space is provided free of charge to non-profit community organizations and other groups of special interest to seniors. Advertisements from local businesses make up the rest of the book. The publishers are Al and Mary Bishoff of Surrey, who first published a directory in their community last year. Both the Bishoffs and their two sales representatives are over the age of 50. “We're the over the hill but not down yet crowd,’ said Halstrom. “Who would better know what the needs of seniors are?”’ The resources for seniors covered in the directory will in- clude the folowing: North Shore Chambers of Commerce, North Shore Recreation Commissions, Capilano Community Service, North Shore Home Support, North Shore Information and Volunteer Centre, North Shore Neighborhood House, North Shore Volunteers for Residents in Care Facilities, Senior Citizens North Vancouver Memorial Community Centre, Silver Harbor Centre, North Shore Social Plann- ing Commissions, United Way, Seycove Information Centre, Seniors Activity Centre and all North Shore libraries. The directory will be available at the above organizations and at the loca! businesses that will be adver- tised in the directory.
