B2 - Sunday, June 26, 1983 - North Shore News NS baseball season winding down The baseball season is coming to a quick conclu- sion at Forest Hills. The pro- cess of elimination has seen Highland Optical and Skyline Sports eliminated. Skyline first eliminated Highland Optical in a game Sunday with a 27 to 4 win by Skyline. On Tuesday it was Stongs taking Skyline and Stongs took the 9-4. This allows Stongs to face the Capilano Lions in the final showdown for the Forest Hills major League championship. The balance of power lies with the Lions and their pitcher R. 5. Casewell. Unfortunately, Stongs heavy pitcher Mike Slaney was used fully in the match-up against Skyline Sports. Special highlights in the Stongs-Skyline battle were good pitching by Mike Slaney for Stongs and An- drew Shandrow and Geoff Stollery for Skyline. Stephen Crawford never missed each time at the plate with outstanding hitting power aiding the Skyline team, but it wasn’t quite enough to win the day. The Capilano Lions have already been victors against Stongs in the playoffs and Stongs must win this final battle or the Lions take home the “Gold”. In the minor league action it’s still a three-way battle for the minor division cham- pionship between Mac's Dunn's, and Mitten. 7- Eleven has already been eliminated from any further games. T-Ball and Pee Wee Championships will be decided this weekend. The Robert Biddlecombe Memorial award given to the outstanding player in major league divisions was award- ed Friday night at the new Cleveland Park baseball complex on Nancy Greene. Way. All.teams and their coaches appeared in uniform for the ceremonies. The win- ners for 1983 are: MAJOR LEAGUE - Andrew Shan- dro; the runner-up trophy goes to Pat Band. MINOR LEAGUE - Chris Sutherland; the runner-up trophy goes to Jim Graham. Andrew Shandro was team captain for Skyline this year. He is one of the all round best athletes in the league. He is a dedicated player, good leader and con- tains his emotions during any bad moment in a game. He is an example of all the good things that make an outstanding player in any game. The runner-up for the Robert Biddiecombe Memorial award in majors is Pat - Band. Pat is an outstanding catcher for Capilano Lions. He is a dedicated player who always was the first in the park and the last to leave any game. An excellent athlete, Pat is even more incredible when one considers that he moved here from the East last year and has never played baseball before. In minor league, the win- ners of the Robert Bid- dlecombe award are Chris Satherland, who has displayed an incredibly good -weather attitude all season no matter what the win-loss record of his team and his runner-up is Jim Graham who displayed outstanding sportsmanship throughout the season. The Robert Biddlecombe award is named after a young player who although sick with Leukemia, played a whole season in Forest Hills Little League. Mt. Seymour playoffs The league schedule for the 1983 season of the Mount Seymour Kinsmen's Little League has been com- pleted in the three divisions and playoff games were scheduled to open on Mon- day June 20th. Due to the inclement no games were played in division | and 2 and only one game was stag- ed in the Major Division with First Memorial Services Expos emerging as an easy winner over Stong’s Tigers by an 8-3 score. Hopefully the play off schedule will be completed this week with the final championship games to be played following the closing ceremonies of the 1983 season at Myrtle Park on Sunday, June 26 commenc- ing at 1:30 p.m. Trophies will be awarded on the closing day to the championship teams and crests given to all players. “Let's Go For Sunday Brunch TRADER VI<'S What makes Trader Vic's the place for Sunday Brunch?
