The North Shore of the

_Lower Mainland has. been

selected’ as the ‘site of

Theatre B.C.’s annual drama
festival for 1979. During the
week. of June 5 to 9, amateur
theatre groups from through-
out Britisi: Columbia will be
presenting piays chosen from
their regional] zone festivals,
at the Centennial Theatre in
North Vancouver. |

Playing host to this festival

of plays is the North Shore -

zone of Theatre B.C., one of
nine participating zones in
British Columbia. ,

It has been over 10 years
since a final festival:-was held
in Vancouver. Since’ that
time, both amateur and
professional groups have
expanded and improved.
Many knowledgeable and

talented _people have made.

the Lower Mainland their
home, and it is hoped that
Theatre B.C. ‘79. will be able
to draw on their. expertise
and resources. :

Theatre B,C. ‘79 will be an
exciting week -for all who
attend, including festival
participants, representatives,
and the play-going -public.
The calibre of the participa-
ting productions is sure to be
high, and the opportunity to
see as many as 9 plays in one
week is not to be misSed.

outdoor
travel -

This spring the North
Shore Family Y.M.C.A. will
be offering an Introduction
to Hiking and Backpacking
Course for adults (17 yrs.
and up). Participants will be
shown the major aspects of
back-country travel in-
cluding map and compass,
wilderness survival, clothing
and equipment, outdoor
ethics, as well as all the other
components which make
outdoor living safe and
enjoyable.

The course begins May 15
and consists of five evening
lectures (one per week) and
an overnight backpacking
trip toa local area.
