ANY NORTH Shore homeowners
are aware that the area’s frequent
rain showers inflict considerable

But what is not well known is
just how the weather affects paint,

your home from weather-related

According to experts, the three
weather conditions most harmful
to paint are moisture, the sun’s
ultraviolet rays, and temperature
fluctuations.

its share of summer sun, we do
not suffer from excessive exposure
to ultraviolet rays, nor are
temperature extremes as severe as
in other regions.

MOISTURE AND PAINT

Water in all forms — rain, dew,
frost, snow — can be a threat to
paint, and on the North Shore,
the culprit is rain.

Annual precipitation here totals
about 1,115 millimetres — one of
the highest rainfall levels in
Canada.

Moisture is detrimental to paint
because it makes paint soften and
swell, which can lead to blistering,
cracking, peeling, and flaking, as
well as mildew growth.

The best way to safeguard your
home from these problems is to
use @ top-quality acrylic latex
paint.

enables it to adhere tenaciously to
the surface and resist the dangers
mentioned above.

To get maximum service from
your paint job, be sure to prepare
your surface carefully before you
paint.

must be clean and free of dirt and
chalk before you paint.
