May carnations help MS Society

MAY [IS MS month and
with it comes the MS Socie-
ty’s Annual Carnation
Campaign.

This ycar May 7 and 8 —
Mother’s Day weekend —
have been proclaimed Car-
nation Days. BC Tel Pio-
neers and community volun-
teers will be standing on
street corners and in local
shopping malls offering
carnations for a donation.

All monies raised go di-
rectly 10 National Research.
The Multiple Sclerosis
Society, of Canada funds
over $3 million of medical
research each year which is

targeted at finding the cause
and ultimately the cure of
this debilitating disease. The
Society relies on the gener-
osity of community minded
individuals to raise money
for research and services
vital to people with MS.
Today, more than 50,000
Canadians have multiple
sclerosis — one of the
highest incidence rates in the
world. It strikes without
warning in the prime of life,
with onset between the ages
of 20 and 40. ft may disap-
pear temporarily into remis-
sion, and then quickly
reappear with even more

devastating symptoms. It
can cause paralysis, It can
cause blindness. It can also
affect one's ability to speak.

For some people MS is
obviously debilititing, for
others the syinptoms are
hidden. As of yet, there is
no specific treatment, no
known cause and no cure.

This Mother's Day
