Northlands fate should go to vote Dear Editor: {appears that our right to vote On matters which directly affect us is being circumvented to. satisfy the desire of a highly vocal special interest group for a golf course in the Northlands area east of the Seymour River. Those of us fiving in the vicinity of Mt. Seymour Speedway are now faced with the destruction of an area once intended for mixed housing as a core community. Traffic associated with residen- tial development is quite different from traffic headed for recre- ational activity. If the area is used for housing and community activities, public transit would serve; but who heads off to the golf course by public bus? The bylaw amendments published in the North Shore News of April 7 do not mention financing. Why not? Well-designed course much more appealing Dear Editor: Planner Kai Kreuchen needs to wake up. There are ‘model neighbor- hoods’ ail over the North Shore and what do they bring? Monster ‘houses which are ugly and a waste ‘of dwindling resources, over- ‘crowded schools, traffic conges- tion with attendant pollution, and youth crinie because recreational opportunities are lacking and/or too expensive. We don’t need a Kreuchen- designed model neighborhood in Northlands. If Kreuchen visited Cates Park on a. Wednesday afternoon in August he might find a few people ‘exercising their dogs, but if he visited Langara Golf Course he would find it packed with golfers, many of them retirees whom Coun. Harris, in her opposition to the Northlands Development, branded ‘‘elite.”’ Kreuchen would also find jog- gers and walkers on the peripheral trails at Langara to prove that a well-designed golf course with hiking and cycling trails is very well used. indeed and much more appealing than a housing devel- opment. Thank goodness Kreuchen is an esx-district planner. Range lands should be publicized. We taxpayers are entitled at the very least to vote directly on this proposal, and with full. informa- tion about financing.
