People who think drinking and driving is not a serious
problem might consider that:
e flcohol is the fourth major cause of traffic accidents;
an
@ one in five people in B.C. jails are there because of
drinking driving convictions.

As well, statistics on young drivers (16 to 20 years old)
show that:
@ of ali alcohol-related traffic accident victims in 1991,
20% were in that age group; and
@ one-quarter of all passengers killed or injured in
alcohol-related accidents were young people.

Miller added that they also get older people who have
never been caught or stopped and expect that they are
able to drive, but end up in an accident.

3. Figure where 1. and 2. intersect is Blood Alcohol Content (BAC).
If BAC is .050 or more, driving is UNSAFE.
If BAC is .080 or more, driving is ILLEGAL.
Conviction carries a minimum 6 month driving prohibition,
a fine and/or a prison term. :
OVER THE LIMIT? Then don't drive. Wait until time reduces
your BAC to a safe level. Deduct from 3. the figure below
which is next to the number of hours since your first drink. This
will compensate for your body's elimination of alcohol.
