The project, recently announced by Transportation and Highways Minister Lyall Hanson, is the se- cond phase of the ministry's five-year, $3.5 million slope stabilization program. Phase one was completed in the spring at Brunswick Point. “The rock scaling project at Porteau Bluffs and our new emergency ferry mooring facility at Porteau Cove Provincial Park are important components of the ministry’s program to ensure that the vital transportation link be- tween Vancouver and Squamish is maintained,’’ said Hanson. He added that the rock work project will result in road closures HONDA Civic ‘8595 HONDA and delays along the highway. West Vancouver-Howe Sound MLA John Reynolds said the slope stabilization program is “greatly appreciated’’ by the peo- ple who live in the communities of _ Squamish, Whistler and Pember- ton, ‘in spite of the inconve- niences regular highway users en- counter during rock scaling work.” Work at Porteau Bluffs is scheduled to start on Sept. 3 and is expected to be completed by Nov. 15.
