Reward offered
for murder info

A CASH reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information
leading to the arrest of the murderer who stabbed & retired Hillside
Secondary school teacher to death March 18.

Kathleen Kermode, 73, was murdered in her Sunset Beach home.
According to Squamish RCMP, the killer entered her home by
climbing a ladder to the sundeck and opening a sliding glass door.

Finding Kermode asleep, the suspect stabbed her repeatedly. The
killer then took several items from the victim’s purse, including the
keys to her green 1982 VW Jetta. The car was driven half a block
up the road outside the Kermode home and was then abandoned.

Police investigators have no motive for the killing. In addition to
a Crime Stoppers reward of up to $2,000, a $3,000 private reward
is being offered for information leading to a resolution of the case.

Legion Week
declared

ALL THREE North Shore municipalities have officially declared
the week of June 10 to 17 as Royal Canedian Legion Week.

The move coincides with the Royal Canadian Legion’s 33rd
biennial Dominion convention to be held in Vancouver next week.

Some 4,000 veterans from as far away as Newfoundland will be
in Vancouver for the five-day event which starts with a wreath-
laying service at noon on Sunday at the Vancouver Cenotaph.

The Canadian Legion was formed in Winnipeg at a national
conference of veterans’ groups in November 1925.

A fraternal non-profit organization, the Royal Canadian Legion
exists to serve the interests of Canada’s war veterans and their
) dependents and ex-service members and their families.

The legion also actively promotes patriotism, national unity and
remembrance of the contribution Canada’s war-dead made to the
country.
