12 - Friday, September 22, 1989 ~ North Shore News September is child abuse month THE THREE North Shore mayors, along with the other heads of GVRD municipalities, have proclaimed September as Child Abuse Prevention month in the Lower Mainland. They join with the Independent Order of Foresters, which is con- ducting an awareness program focusing on the tragic problem of child abuse. Thousands of children are vic- tims of this abuse each year, says Harold Massey, IOF High Chief Ranger for British Columbia. The abuse may be physical, sexual, or emotional, or may consist of ne- glect. “By having a month set aside for the prevention of child abuse, we hope to make people aware of the problem. Our children are very, very special and deserve the best we can give,’’ Massey says. The IOF was established in 1874 and is one of the world’s oldest Church hosts special guests THE NORTH Shore Allance Church is hosting two special guests this Sunday, Sept. 24.
