scholarships would educate stu-
dents and their parents about the
importance of peace, said Sharp.

And Sharp said groups such as
the Kinsmen, Rotary, North Shore
News and the Chamber of Com-
merce should be encouraged to
support and sponsor educational
events involved in a peace cam-
paign.

The combined committee budget
of $6,500 awaits budget approval,
but Sharp said she is anxious to
begin work in areas which don’t
require direct city funding.

North Vancouver District Coun-
cil also endorsed the report in
principle at its Monday night Poli-
cy and Planning meeting, but
deferred decision on allocating a
budget until the legal implications
have been checked with the
municipal solicitor.

NV to raise awareness
of nuclear-free status

THE PRICE-TAG of peace is $3,250 — North Vancouver
City’s share of a public awareness program aimed at in-
creasing the profile of its status as a nuclear-free zone.

Vancouver District held in
November 1982 on the nuclear
weapons free zone was financed by
private donations to avoid anv
suggestion that council was spen-
ding public money in an area in
which they had no jurisdiction.
West Vancouver District is not
represented on the committee and
has not officially participated in
any meetings to date, although
Sharp suid residents of the district
have attended planning sessions.
