Al4 - Sunday, December 11, 1983 - North Shore News Crime-stopping program starts STARTING WITH today’s edition, the North Shore News and the West Vancouver Police launch CAP — a new Crime Awareness Program. It’s aimed at dealing with residential and business break-ins, one of the most serious crimes in West Van- couver because of its impact on the residents. Every week the News will publish a list of the dates, times and general locations of break-ins. As well, one of those of particular interest will be more fully publicized and crime prevention infor- mation wail be passed along. The West Van Police are hoping that the CAP column will help make the residents of West Vancouver more aware of the problem and the steps they can take to avoid becoming victims. At the same time, police hope the publicity will en- courage residents of the areas listed to contact them with any information they might have regarding incidents. C.A.P. Crime Awareness Program WATCH OUT, says West Vancouver Police, there’s a sneak thief prowling the residential areas. On at least three occasions, residents of West Van- couver homes have been awoken by the sounds of some- one in their homes. Last year the North Vancouver Christmas Bureau and the West Vancouver Santa Claus Fund provided food hampers for more than 800 needy families in our North Shore community. We expect at least as many families to be in need this Christmas and so we are once again asking our readers to help as much as they can. The Christmas Bureau and the Santa Claus Fund will gratefully accept donations of non- perishabie foods, clothing, toys, and books for children of all ages. Collections Centres Police say to make sure that all doors and windows are securely bolted before retiring for the night. West Van police also reports that there have been a total of 44 break-ins during the month and urge residents to take all precautions. This week’s break-ins: *Between 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, and 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the 1500 block of Esquimalt. *Between Sunday, Nov. 27, and Sunday, Dec. 4, in the 2300-block Westhill. *On Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 2 a.m. in the 800-block Sen- tinel (Suspect arrested.) *Between 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 in the 1300-block Camary. for Hamper Donations: in North Vancouver The Salvation Army 12th St. & Lonsdale Qam-Spm in West Vancouver No. 1 Firehall 16th St. & Fulton Ave. 10 am to 4.30 pm RN ay © 6 Pe a Cg in ‘CO’ OC® suggestions for Hamper Donations *O°0'C SOFT CONTACTS AVAILABLE AT: THE OPTICAL DEPT.
