He held the seat after switching to Social Credit in 1975. In 1979 he was returned once more with a massive 10,600 majority over the NDP contender ~— _ the second largest majority in the province after that of NDP leader Dave Barrett, who won in Vancouver East by a margin of nearly 11,000. The West Van-Howe Sound Socreds have scheduled a nominatmg meeting for Apml 14 to choose their new candidate. He is widely expected to be 25-year-old Mark Sager, former West Van School Board chairman. Sager may not, however, have an altogether clear run. Four other names reported to be eyeing the nomination are Dan Cumming, chairman of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District; Margot Furk, a West Van school trustee; Mary Kerr, a former West Van alderman; and Bert Fleming, a West Van ratepayers’ leader who was defeated last November in a bid for the mayor's chair.
