The North Vancouver Lions Club will be allowed to hold its carnival on Good Friday, April 13, thanks to a deciding vote by North Van City Mayor Jack Loucks. City council voted Monday night to allow the Lions Club to hold their carnival from April 12 to 17 in the area directly behind the Centennial Theatre, assuming various requirements concerning sanitation, security and other arrangements were made. As was the case last year, however, there was debate whether the carnival would be permitted to function on Good Friday. An amendment by Alderman Frank Marcino, ® Permanent Vinvi * Non-skid « Waterproot © Fade Resistant * Long Lasting ¢ Guaranteed | Sun and seconded by Alderman Jim Warne to prohibit the operation of the carnival on that day in accordance with the Shops’ Regulations By- Law, was narrowly defeated by opposing votes from Aldermen Elko Kroon and Gary Payne and Mayor Loucks. Alderman Marcino argued in vain that out of respect of Christian Churches the carnival should not be allowed to operate. Alderman Payne = said since Good Friday was a holiday and shops and other institutions would be closed people would be with their familities and would want to go to something like the carnival. . — ——~ Resurface Your Friday carnival i @ USED BOOKS 50-70% OFF ORIGINAL PRICE Boating books, cook books, art books, chitdren’s books, sesting books, automotive books Thousands to choose from Pacific oks 1135 Lonsdale North Vancouver 980-2121 decks « Pool decks with DURADEK .
