New program a first for Canada THE CURRENT slump in real estate hasn’t stopped 25 second-year MBA students from entering the Faculty of Administrative Studies’ new program in Real Property Development. Program director James McKellar says there couldn't be a better time to introduce such a program. ‘‘There is recognition among industry leaders that future needs can only be met through new educational opportunities, increased research and col- Jaboration between industry and academia. “*Few industries in the country have a greater effect on the overall economy than does the development, construction, ownership, management, feasing and financing of real property improvements. Yet it is an industry that has lacked research and access to for~ mal education and train- ing,”’ he adds. The program is the first McKellar says students will gain the vital knowledge re- quired to address the future needs of the industry. In- dustry members, who are the major source of the program’s financial support for the next 10 years, wil! work closely with the facul- ty in research, serninars and case studies.
