Be careful when storing, using flammable liquids FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS, like gasoline and kerosene, are serious hazards that we keep around our homes. However, if they are stored and used properly and safely, acci- dents can be avoided. District of North Vancouver fire services want people to realize that a gallon of gasoline can be as dangerous as 14 sticks of dyna- mite. ‘These flammable liquids, with their invisible vapors, don’t burn when ignited, but explode. The most likely victims are men. and boys between the ages of nine and 35. The more typical accidents in- volving flammable liquids happen when: ® gasoline is used for cleaning; @® smoking while refuelling small engines/motors or refuelling while they are still hot; ® applying lighter fluid on a charcoal fire that has already started to burn. The following guidelines should be used when handling or storing flammable liquids: Store in ‘‘safety cans’? or con- tainers that have been approved for the storage of flammable liq- uids by Factory Mutual (FM), Look who's selling Calverhall! KARIM REMTULLA (Tele.) 984-9711 NOTHING SUCCEEDS UKE SUSSEX HOT TIPS by North Vancouver District Fire Department Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) or Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Store them outside the home, away from areas where there are pilot lights or other sources of ig- nition. Use solvents designed for clean- ing, always following the manu- facturer’s recommendation for proper use. When refuelling any engine, turn it off, allow to cool and ex- tinguish all smoking materials. Flammable liquids should be treated with respect in order to prevent accidents. If you have them stored in your home, move them, for the safety of your family.
