14 Canadian artists display interpretations

Yaletown opened its doors last
March, the annual Indy race
was uppermost in the mind of
Diane de Saint-Pierre.

“When we opened here.
(owner) Guy (Dagenais) invited
me in and | said ‘Oh my god, the
Indy! — what are we going to do?"
said de Saint-Pierre, who runs the
gallery with Dagenais.

As she saw it, there were three
options: close, buy ear plugs, or do
something with it.

e result is a special exhibi-
tion of Indy art.“As far as we
know, nobody’s done a show like
this; it’s the first time,” she said.

De Saint-Pierre said the idea for
an Indy exhibit came to her after
seeing the enthusiasm that attended
last year’s race and from seeing
how artists participated in the
Monaco Grand Prix.

on the Indy she found more and
more artists, mostly on the West
Coast, who wanted to participate.

All told, the exhibit has attract-
ed 14 artists from across Canada,
one of whom is Decp Cove's Spar
Street.

“Diane had seen my work
before and asked me a number of
times if I'd do some work for it,”
