Sockeyes return in great numbers THE SOCKEYE are here. By David Korsch Contributing Writer This is the peak year of the four- year Adams River sockeye cycle. In addition, other sockeye stocks are also having strong returns. This means we are in for some incredible sockeye fishing over the next couple of months. At the present time, schools of sockeye are arriving off the mouth of the Fraser River. Since it is early in the run, there is still a lot of space between the schools. Typically, the action is hot for a period of time, then it dies until you can relocate a school. As more schools arrive, the lulls will get shorter and shorter. Recent hot locations included roughly two miles NW of the QA marker, and in near the [ona outfall jetty. Ali of the different sockeye hootchies seem to be producing well, though different boats have different favorites. The most productive depths have been from nine to 27m (30 to 90 ft.). “There are a fair number of under- sized chinook (fess than 24.2 in/62 cm) among the sockeye so please watch for them and release them carefully (do not net them). Dundarave is still producing coho Laas FISHING PRO David Korsch early in the mornings. The best method is to troll cutplugs off down- riggers between 4.5 to nine m (15 and 30 ft.), Mooching live herring will also produce well if you can place yourself in the path of the moving schools. Hole in the wail (Horseshoe Bay) is also producing some nice coho and chinook in the mornings. Try cutplugs off the downriggers, or white hootchies between 12 to 24 m (40 and 80 ft.).
