Il hear you snickering, but while
youre bundling up to brave back-
country weather that would freeze
the Bobbitt of fa brass baboon, Pm
wrapping myself in Mons cro-
cheted afghan in preparation for
visits to the finest fishing fakes in
Southwestern B.C.

I may take @ fly-tying lesson.
Then, just fora change of pace, a 4-
wheel-drive tour of the local natural
hot springs.

All this without stirring from the
.thermat radiance of the fireplace.

(Hike to feel the burn.)

With television came the advent
of the electronic safari: we could
visit the Himalayas, the Serengeti
Plain, the Amazon basin, without
leaving, our living rooms.

But never has the full impact of
video travel hit so close to home as
in the innovative series of “Safari
West Backroad Videos” produced
by North Vancouver's Newe
Productions Ltd.

gram like this for Shaw Cable when
! worked there as a cameraman.”
Dave says. “Then [ went to work
for the CBC for five years, 1 was
doing mostly staging and I realized
it was going to be a Jong time
before | got behind a camera

Merritt/Kamloops areas. the heart

Volume V is a guide to tying
fies specifically for these waters.

Drive technique to help you get the
maximum benelit from both the
previous videos and your lifestyle
jeep.

Each video is accompanied by a
map-book keyed to the video text,
which provides additional naviga-
tional data. ( odometer readings,
vic.) so its almost impossible to get
lost and youll have an excellent
visual idea of the kind of backroad
youl be bouncing over.

The videos offer a nice mix of
destinations -— some accessible by
regular 2-wheel-drive vehicles, oth-
ers only by determined 4-wheel-dri-
ving — and a few that will make
you consider parking the rig and
opting fora brisk hike.

Though the fishing videos also
offer useful tips for fishermen,
(bait. best fishing season, ease of
uccess, ete.) you don’t have to have
trout on the brain to find this rare
footage of Southwestern B.C."s
most idyllic lakes enticing.

This is the “SuperNatural B.C.”
you don’t see from any highway:
bound to inflame the imaginations
of wilderness campers, hikers and
mountain-bikers looking for a lake-
side Eden that can be accessed
without an expedition pack.

Many of these fakes also make
excellent cross-country ski or snow-
mobile destinations: hot springs
(Vol. IL) are particularly tempting in
winter, but the RCMP are warning
